Bookkeeping you don't have to do.

Every invoice, payment, refund and stock movement writes its own double-entry journal as it happens. Your accounts aren't something you produce at quarter end. They're already there.

Free plan. No card.

What you can do

  • Start from a standard chart of accounts, or build your own
  • Journals posted for you from invoices, purchases, payments and stock movements
  • Your bank’s QuickBooks or Quicken download imported as it comes, and matched against the invoices it settles
  • Manual journals for the things software can't know: accruals, corrections, opening balances
  • Your state's sales tax rate set up from the start, plus the other states you sell into
  • Trial balance, profit and loss, balance sheet and aged receivables, read from the same journals
  • Suppliers paid by printed check or ACH file, and the year’s 1099 figures from what you paid them

How it works

  1. 01

Pick your chart of accounts once

Start from the general default, which suits most businesses, and rename or add accounts to match how you actually work. Worth ten minutes with your accountant, because it is painful to change later.

  2. 02

    Then mostly forget about it

Raising an invoice posts revenue, receivables and tax. Registering a payment clears the receivable. Buying stock posts the asset and selling it posts the cost. You didn't open this screen for any of it.

  3. 03

    Import the bank and reconcile

Upload the .qfx, .qbo or .ofx file your bank offers, or a spreadsheet you map once, and each line is offered against the open invoices it might settle. Lines that clearly match one invoice can be booked all at once.

Good to know - A posted entry is permanent. Undoing one means reversing it, which leaves both the original and the reversal visible. Books you can quietly edit are books nobody can rely on, including you.

Questions

Is the accounting free?
There's a free plan with 5 documents a month and no card to start, and real double-entry bookkeeping is on it. We don't hold the accounting back as the paid upgrade. A set of books that only half works isn't a cheaper product, it's a worse one.
Do I need to know bookkeeping to use it?
No. You raise invoices and record payments, and the journals write themselves underneath. The one thing worth doing properly at the start is your chart of accounts, because that's the part that's awkward to change once you've been running for a quarter.
Will my accountant be able to work with it?
Yes, and they can work across several of your companies on one login with separate permissions in each. Every posted entry is traceable, corrections are reversals rather than edits, and the data exports whenever you want it.
Does it work out my sales tax?
It produces the figures for your return and shows you how each box was arrived at, starting from your own state and any others you add. It files nothing on your behalf and it is no substitute for an accountant who knows your business.
Do you do 1099s?
We do the figures. Copy each contractor's W-9 onto their supplier record as it arrives, and in January the 1099 report totals what you paid each of them in the year, by payment date. Filing still goes through your filing service.
